We're looking for the top LED bulbs that do well in both types of headlights, so we tested on both on a projector headlight and a reflector headlight

Projector Headlight Test

We tested the LED headlight bulbs in a projector headlight from a Toyota 4Runner. This is a halogen projector low beam headlight but it doesn't matter if you have a Chevy Silverado or a Toyota Tacoma. Any of the characteristics that allow these bulbs to do well in this projector headlight should enable them to do well in any halogen projector headlight.

#1 Brightest LED Headlight (Projector Test): GTR Lighting Ultra 2

When we tested all 25 LED headlight bulbs, the one that came out on top for this projector headlight was the GTR Lighting Ultra 2. This LED headlight came in 400 percent brighter than the original halogen headlight bulb.

#2 Brightest LED Headlight (Projector Test): S V.4 LED Headlights

The next brightest bulb in the entire lineup was the S V.4 LED Headlight.

It came in at 347 percent brighter than stock. Not quite as bright as the GTR Lighting bulb, but it's a good option.

#3 Brightest LED Headlight (Projector Test): F3

Coming in third for the brightest option was the F3. The F3 came in at 315 percent brighter than the original halogen bulb, but the increase in brightness dropped significantly. This bulb is available from a variety of different brands. It is a small body bulb with an extremely bright LED and a small heatsink.

Even though it's bright, the F3 has a big problem: it's unbalanced. The amount of heat generated by this ultra-bright LED assembly overpowers the cooling capacity of this heatsink. The light we tested was anodized with a black coating. After just an hour, the bulb got so hot that the black anodized coating actually burned off. Though this bulb was one of the brightest of the LED headlights we tested, we don't recommend it.

#4 Brightest LED Headlight (Projector Test): XenonDepot Xtreme LED Pro

Coming in at number four is the XenonDepot Xtreme LED Pro. This bulb came in at 221 percent brighter than stock. It's high-quality and a very good option.

#5 Brightest LED Headlight (Projector Test): Diode Dynamics SL1 LED Bulbs

The fifth brightest bulb for a projector headlight in the entire lineup was the Diode Dynamics SL1 LED Bulb, coming in at 210 percent brighter than stock. This bulb is the only one out of all the brands we tested which manufactures in the USA. It had a good beam pattern and it was twice as bright as the original halogen. Everything below the Diode Dynamics SL1 LED Bulbcame in at less than 200 percent brighter.

Reflector Headlight Test

You may notice a negligible difference between the reflector headlight test results and the reflector headlight results. This is very common with LED headlight bulbs. Keep in mind that our lux measurements are based on the space, tools, ambient lighting and surfaces where we are testing. What I want you to pay attention to is the increased brightness.

#1 Brightest LED Headlight (Reflector Test): GTR Lighting Ultra 2

Coming in again at number 1 is the GTR Lighting Ultra 2. This LED registered at 709 percent brighter than the original halogen light bulb. The GTR lighting ultra 2 uses a state-of-the-art LED chipset, it has the best cooling fan in the industry, and the wiring and driver are second to none.

#2 Brightest LED Headlight (Reflector Test): F3

In second place is the F3, coming in at 546 percent brighter. However, we still have the same problem as we did with the projector test. The F3 is not a reliable bulb. It is built entirely out of balance and the heatsink can't handle the amount of heat generated. We cannot recommend this, despite the good beam pattern.

#3 Brightest LED Headlight (Reflector Test): S V.4 LED Headlights

Though the S V.4 came in second in the projector headlight test, it placed third in the reflector test. The S V. 4 comes in at 500% brighter than stock. It's stable, high-quality and proven to be reliable.

#4 Brightest LED Headlight (Reflector Test): SNGL

The 4th brightest bulb in our reflector headlight test was from SNGL. This LED was 434 percent brighter than stock. It's a notable contender and is well-built. It has characteristics similar to the GTR Lighting Ultra, but it's not quite as bright.

#5 Brightest LED Headlight (Reflector Test): Diode Dynamics SL1

Coming in a close fifth to the SNGL is the Diode Dynamics SL1. Made in America and coming in at 396 percent brighter than the original halogen bulb, the Diode Dynamics SL is super high quality and is a great option.

There you have the top brightest LED headlight bulbs you can get today. These bulbs will save you money in the long run because you won't need to keep replacing lights that burn out or fail quickly.
